If you enjoy studying in the Netherlands, you might be interested in gaining even more experience abroad. Perhaps, after doing a Bachelor’s degree in the Netherlands, you would like to do a Master’s degree or an internship in another country. WilWeg provides you with tips, ideas and useful links to broaden your international experience, but it’s all in Dutch.

Exchange programmes

Nearly all Dutch higher education institutions have exchange partnerships with foreign education institutions, for example through the Erasmus programme. You can also make your own arrangements. Find out as much as you can about education systems, study programmes and practicalities such as enrolment, visas and permits. The country page of Indonesia is a good place to start.

Recognition of your credits

If you organise your own study programme abroad, you need to make clear arrangements for credit recognition. Many universities in Europe use the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) for mutual recognition of credits. Check whether the institution you choose uses this system. If it does not, please contact your tutor or the international coordinator at your university to make arrangements in advance for recognition of your credits.

Funding

There are many options for funding your foreign plans. The European Union, the Dutch government and all sorts of companies and foundations offer grants and scholarships for students who want to go abroad. The Beursopener search engine provides information on a wide range of grants and scholarships.

First-hand experience

Besides finding practical information, you might like to talk to students who have already been to the country you are interested in. Students around the world can give you useful tips on how to survive as a student abroad and how to find a place to stay. Check out stories of students who have been there.
